Investigations indicate that many of these issues appear to have been due to running the game on integrated graphics cards rather than dedicated, or were the result of out of date drivers. I noticed then in Manage section of XB1 that Batman links two two different entries. The second is where episodes are saved. I delete the first one, but it reappears when I launch the game. I tried with and without that file installed and get the same result. It appears this might fix it for me.
